love is a song
love is a song that can never be written,
it changes and grows in so many ways;
to write, it would take a lifetime,
to set to music, at least one more,
to hear and understand, an eternity.
in my few years upon this earth,
the meaning of love has been ever changing;
picking one first for your team,
talking together whenever you can,
caring for someone unconditionally.
something i thought i could never find,
though has always been in front of me;
the joy in skating hand-in-hand,
the comfort in being with a friend,
the pure happiness from one phone call -
from one three word goodbye.
the words i thought i'd never hear,
yet have always known;
i love you 'cause you're my friend,
i love you for not leaving,
i love you because of who you are.
it's taken longer than i'd hoped,
but i've found another part;
she loves me for who i am,
i love her with all i am,
we love each other... and always have.
in far too many different ways,
this thing called love is hard to explain.
love is a song that can never be written,
and i hope that, if nothing else about it,
will always stay the same.
